On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at approximately 10:20 a.m., a 24-year-old male housed in the Medical Housing Unit was observed by jail staff exhibiting erratic behavior. Correctional health staff were immediately summoned to the scene, at which time the individual disclosed he had ingested an unknown substance.
Medical care was promptly administered; however, the individual’s condition declined, leading to an altered state of consciousness. Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the individual to a local medical facility for advanced treatment. Despite ongoing medical intervention, he was pronounced deceased on April 1, 2026.
Per standard protocol and policy, an investigation has been initiated and remains ongoing. Detectives from the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office and investigators from the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office have assumed responsibility for the case. The official cause and manner of death remain pending. Additional updates will be provided once those details are confirmed.
