Correctional Lieutenant Surgick was hired on as a Correctional Officer trainee in March 2008. During his time as a trainee, he went through and graduated from the CO Academy and was assigned to the South Jail, Jail Core, and Honor Farm.
He was trained for and acted as a part-time Weaponless Self-Defense Instructor. In July 2013 he joined CERT (Custody Emergency Response Team). Surgick then trained for and became certified as a Chemical Agents Instructor. From February 2014 to December 2015, Surgick was a full-time TYGR Officer at the Honor Farm Facility.
In October 2017 he was promoted to Correctional Sergeant and assigned as the Jail Core Sergeant and became a CERT Team Leader. In March 2019 he was assigned as the AB109 Realignment Sergeant and continued that through September 2020 when he was promoted to Correctional Lieutenant and assigned to the South Jail Facility/Scheduling.
