On Tuesday, February 24th, Sergeant Jason Whelen of the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office suffered a medical emergency while on duty. Despite immediate and extensive lifesaving efforts, Sergeant Whelen tragically passed away.

Sergeant Whelen dedicated his career to serving the community of San Joaquin County, having begun his service with the Sheriff’s Office on October 15, 2007, and later promoting to Sergeant on February 25, 2013. He was a respected leader, colleague, and friend to many.

Most importantly, Sergeant Whelen was a devoted husband and the proud father of four children. His passing leaves behind a family facing an unimaginable loss.

Sergeant Whelen was a proud member of thePeace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC), and this fund has been established to provide direct support to his family during this incredibly difficult time. Contributions will assist with immediate and ongoing needs, including household expenses, family support, and future financial stability.

The need for support is both immediate and long-term. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference for the Whelen family as they navigate the days ahead.
