Captain de la Cruz was hired by the Sheriff’s Office in April 1998 as a correctional officer. During her time as a CO, de la Cruz worked throughout the pretrial and honor farm facilities. In 2003, she was selected as a Custody Training Officer and was reassigned to the Training Unit instructing the Christopher J. Serpa Correction Academy as well as journey-level training of staff. In May 2005, De La Cruz was selected to assist in PIO duties for Custody Division and Community projects. In 2010, she was nationally recognized by the American Jail Association as Correction Training Officer of the Year.
In 2011, de la Cruz was promoted to Correctional Sergeant and was assigned to the Jail Core Facility and Relief, filling in at all facilities. She was also selected for the Correctional Sergeant position within the Professional Standards Division, overseeing the Correctional Officer Academy, journey-level training, Sheriff’s Office Policy, and Sheriff’s Office leaves. In November 2014, she earned her American Jail Association Jail Manager Certification.
In April 2015, de la Cruz was promoted to the rank of Correctional Lieutenant and assigned to Jail Core Facility, Watch Commander, and Transportation Unit. She completed the National Jail Leadership Command Academy at Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas in February 2017.
Lastly, in October 2017, de la Cruz was promoted to Correctional Captain. She currently oversees Inmate Programs, the Realignment Unit, Population Management, Custody Training/Compliance, and the Record Division.
