Trent Tavai was hired in January 2002 as a Correctional Officer.

He then graduated from the C.O. Academy then was assigned to the South Jail and the Jail Core. In 2004 he was promoted to Correctional Training Officer and then joined CERT in 2005.

From February 2006 – July 2010, he worked as a full-time Correctional Academy Training Instructor. In July 2010 he transitioned to a Classification Officer and did that through March 2011 when he got promoted to Correctional Sergeant and assigned as the Jail Core Sergeant. From July 2012 – March 2015, Tavai was assigned as the Disciplinary Sergeant. From March 2015 – August 2015, he was assigned as the Jail Core Sergeant. For the following year, he was assigned as the Realignment Sergeant.

Then in August 2016, he was assigned as the Relief and South Jail Sergeant and did that through January 2017. From there through January 2018, Tavai worked as the Honor Farm Sergeant. From January 2018 – January 2019, he was assigned as the Relief Sergeant.

In February 2019 Tavai was promoted to Correctional Lieutenant and became the CERT Commander. Then until October 2020, he was assigned as the Lieutenant of the South Jail Facility/Scheduling. In October 2020 he was assigned as the Honor Farm Facility/AWP/CCP Lieutenant and continues to be the CERT Commander.
