To ensure transparency with the community and in compliance with AB2761, we are releasing information about an in-custody death that occurred at the San Joaquin County Jail.
On January 6, 2025, at approximately 3:52 PM, 41-year-old Manuel Williams, a Male Adult, was found unresponsive in his cell located in Intake #2. Fire and medical personnel arrived promptly and performed CPR before transporting him by ambulance to a local hospital at 4:21 PM. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased at 4:41 PM.
Due to the circumstances of this in-custody death, a protocol investigation was initiated. Detectives and officials from the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office are actively involved in the investigation. Preliminary findings indicate the cause of death to be suicide by hanging. His next of kin has been notified.
