To maintain transparency with the community, and in accordance with AB 2761, we are providing information regarding an in-custody death that occurred at the San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp, CA.
At approximately 7:50 p.m. on May 15, 2023, a 44-year-old black male inmate was found unresponsive in his cell. Life-saving measures were immediately initiated while medical staff and emergency responders arrived on scene. Despite these efforts, the inmate was pronounced deceased at 8:49 p.m.
The inmate was housed in a solo cell, and had been in custody since April 1, 2023, facing theft, firearms, and drug charges. Per standard protocol and policy, an investigation into the inmate’s death has been initiated, and is ongoing.
The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death, and will release the name of the deceased after next of kin notification has been made.”
